Normal People has boosted the popularity of lots of things since it aired, most notable is men’s jewellery and O’Neills GAA shorts, but now we have another to add to this list.

According to The Irish Times, there have been a record number of applications for Trinity College in Dublin this year.

The hit show follows Connell and Marianne as they finish school in their home county of Sligo and both move to Dublin to study at Trinity. It seems this has boosted the popularity of the college even more as they received over 40,000 applications through CAO system. This is a massive 11% increase on last year.

Even more interesting, is that the CAO system has a period of time called the ‘change of mind’ window. This is a brief period in which students can go in and amend their choice of course.

As Normal People aired during this time, from May to June it coincided with this window. According to the CAO figures, this year over half of the students who had filled out their CAO adjust their choice during this time.

Could this all be down to Connell and Marianne? It does seem pretty likely!
