Anton Savage paid a touching tribute to his “generous and kind” father, Tom Savage, at his funeral yesterday.
The Public Relations consultant and former chairman of RTE passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday night, following a short battle with cancer.
Tom had a lengthy career in the media in Ireland. He presented a number of RTE programmes such as Eye Witness and It Says In The Papers. He was also the founder and producer of Morning Ireland, and Chairman of the RTE Authority from 2009 to 2014.
The 76-year-old’s funeral took place yesterday and was attended by many well known figures including; author Cathy Kelly, Gavin Duffy from Dragon’s Den and Green party leader Eamon Ryan.
According to the Independent.ie, former Today FM broadcaster, Anton paid a moving tribute to his father at the funeral describing him as “generous and kind, courageous and loyal” and someone who saw money as “something to be given away as quickly as possible.”
Tom is survived by his wife Terry Prone, their only child Anton, Anton’s wife, Cathy and their baby daughter, Anna.
