Competitors flaunted their upcycled ensembles and beloved ethical brands at the Kilbeggan Races, embracing thrifted, borrowed, and handmade pieces for the annual Bellamianta-sponsored Ladies’ Sustainable Style Competition.
They say fashion is subjective, but Sustainable Fashion Stylist and Columnist Roxanne Parker had the honour of selecting the deserving winner of this eagerly anticipated event.
“As a sustainable stylist I was looking for people who had rented looks, shopped vintage, upcycled pieces, or customised a previously worn piece. I was also on the lookout for those who supported a local Irish designer, or someone who chose to re-wear something they already owned – ultimately, a combination of all these elements!”
The ultimate winner of the event was Davinia Knight from Portarlington who braced the inclement weather on the night wearing an outfit was from The Store Yard Vintage Store in Portlaoise, her hat was made by her carpenter husband with styrofoam and her mums faux flower wreath and fabric from a blouse she bought in a charity shop. Her bag and shoes were borrowed from her sisters. Davinia took home prizes from Bellamianta, BodyByrne, Annutri, Kash Beauty, True Beauty, Polished London, Declaré Skincare, LA Girl, Change Of Air, Ayu Cosmetics, Linen Shirt Company, Pelo Hairdressing and Voduz, as well as €1000 cash.
