Alisha Weir and Kneecap nominated for US Critics Choice Awards

Alisha Weir

Irish actress Alisha Weir and Kneecap are among some of the top nominees for the Critics Choice Awards in the US and we couldn’t be prouder.

The 15-year-old actress, who hails from Dublin, is shortlisted in the Best Young Actor/Actress category for her role in the horror/comedy Abigail.

While Kneecap’s critically acclaimed biopic has been nominated for Best Foreign Language Film.

The awards ceremony is set to take place in Santa Monica, California, on Sunday, January 12th, and safe to say, that we will all have all our fingers and toes crossed for our Irish nominees!

Kneecap

Alisha first shot to fame when she landed the role of Matilda in the 2022 movie musical and is now rumoured to play Dorothy in Wicked: Part Two.

Meanwhile, the Kneecap biopic has already picked up some major accolades, including a NEXT Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, and three prizes including the Audience Award at the Galway Film Festival.

It most recently also won big at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) where the movie claimed three major awards for Best British Independent Film, Best Debut Screenwriter for Peppiatt, and Best Joint Lead Performance, awarded to group members Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh, Naoise Ó Cairealláin, and JJ Ó Dochartaigh.

Can they manage to pick up a Critics choice too?

Here’s hoping!

Also, just last week, Caitríona Balfe, Colin Farrell, Graham Norton, Andrew Scott, and Fiona Shaw were announced among the television nominees for the awards.

Look at all that Irish representation!

There’s no stopping us now.
