Actress Jennifer Barry opens up about mental health struggles in candid post

Actress Jennifer Barry has taken to social media to share her experience of mental health.

The Young Offenders star shared that she tried to take her own life two years ago, and marked how far she has come since.

“This day 2 years ago I was going to try to k*ll myself in my garage. Thankfully I was stopped by my parents and boyfriend.”

She then urged people to seek help if they need it, and to open up about how they’re feeling. “To people who feel like giving up, please don’t. please open up about how you are feeling. I promise you it gets better.

“Happy anniversary to me”, she added, with a heart emoji and a smiling face.

Jennifer continued, sharing contact numbers for anyone who may be struggling with their own mental health:

Followers flocked to the comments to praise Jennifer for her honesty and bravery, Derry Girls screenwriter Lisa McGee simply commented “You’re amazing”.

While others also tweeted their praise, with one person writing “Fair play to ya for opening up on your struggles, best wishes to ya if even just one person takes inspiration from ya to talk about their struggles it’s a job well done. Best wishes.”

Another said, “Please share your story to all the youngsters out there who think there is nothing to live for when there is everything to live for. Brave, courageous beautiful, inspirational.”
