U2 have confirmed that they will be playing a Croke Park gig this summer as part of their Joshua Tree anniversary tour.
In 1987 the band catapulted to stardom when they released The Joshua Tree, which sold over 25 million copies. The hit album features some of their biggest hits including; Where the Streets Have No Name, With or Without You and I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.
As previously reported, U2 announced in December that they will be touring their 1987 album in 2017, in celebration of it’s 30th anniversary, but they kept the details and dates of their tour under wraps until now.
The show will take place in Croke Park on 22nd July 2017 and will include a performance of The Joshua Tree in its entirety, with support in Dublin from special guest Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – with Noel saying, “It will be both a pleasure and an honour to play my part in what still remains the greatest show on earth.”
Speaking about the upcoming concert, Bono said he’s excited to bring the legendary album to the stage.
“Recently I listened back to The Joshua Tree for the first time in nearly 30 years… it’s quite an opera.” he said.
“A lot of emotions which feel strangely current, love, loss, broken dreams, seeking oblivion, polarisation… all the greats… I’ve sung some of these songs a lot… but never all of them. I’m up for it, if our audience is as excited as we are… it’s gonna be a great night. Especially when we play at home. Croke Park… it’s where the album was born, 30 years ago.”
Tickets for The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 are on sale Monday, January 16th from usual outlets.
