Saoirse Ronan has revealed that her parents protected her as a young star in Hollywood.
The 23-year-old has been working in the acting business since she was just 9 and landed her first Hollywood role aged twelve.
Speaking about the recent scandal in the industry, which saw some men such as Harvey Weinstein and James Tobak accused of sexual harassment and assault, Saoirse said she was shielded by her parents.
“I was very lucky that I was protected from a lot of that.
“I never was really exposed to what went on at parties, I was never left on my own with anyone. My mom and dad were always around.”
The Brooklyn star graces the cover of The Hollywood Reporter this month, alongside other female stars including Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence.
In the issue, the women discussed their experiences in Hollywood and addressed the scandals that have recently come to light.
“The really disappointing thing about all this is that (journalists and others in Hollywood) had all of this s**t on all of these men and women for the last few years, but they hadn’t done anything with it. It’s just been swept under the carpet,” she said.
The stars also discussed lighter topics in the magazine, and the American stars reportedly adored the Carlow native’s accent.
The article said that the other high profile actresses “seemed endlessly fascinated by the thick Irish accent of Saoirse Ronan, so much so that nearly everyone attempted their own Ronan impression before the hour-long conversation was over.”
