Despite being due baby number two in a matter of months, Pippa O’Connor is keeping her head down and remaining busy as ever when it comes to work. Not only is the model working on her beauty workshops and blog, but has just revealed she’s also completed her debut book.
The mum-to-be has just finished penning the book, and couldn’t be happier to finally be able to talk about it.
Speaking on the Late Late Show last night, Pippa said, I’m so excited. This is my first time to say it. I’ve been working on this book for months. I never realised how difficult it was.
“I literally just finished it last week. It was tough. I’ve had great guidance from Penguin Publishers, who are obviously amazing and I’m just so thrilled. It’s a fashion, beauty and lifestyle book and I’m really, really proud of it.”
Pippa revealed that it was a huge accomplishment and very exciting moment when the company approached her and offered her a book deal last February.
“It was such a big day, and so emotional, bearing in mind my mum had only passed away a few months previously. I’m sitting there and ten minutes into the conversation, she said ‘I really think you have something and we could do something together,’ and I just started to cry.
“It was so embarrassing, because you don’t want to cry in front of someone you have only met. It was a really big moment for someone like that to recognize me and say, ‘we really want to work with you.’”
This comes as a complete change from her last pregnancy, as despite working hard on more and more projects this year, she admitted that when she was pregnant with Ollie, she actually lost work.
“To cut a long story short, I was offered a big beauty contract to be the face of this big campaign, I had signed and sealed everything, and then when I told them that I was three months pregnant, in a very polite way, they just said to me, ‘I think we’re going to go in a different direction now.’ So I don’t know, do they think women go off the face of the earth when they have a baby?
“It was like they thought I wouldn’t be able to fulfill my duties. I was really upset about it at first and then annoyed and then I thought well you know, if someone doesn’t want to work with me I’m not even going to fight it so I just said that’s no problem, okay. It was the best thing that happened to me because that pushed me to go and do my own thing,” she said.
And things have certainly now worked out in her favour. Congrats, Pippa!
