A whole array of A-list stars have paid tribute to Graham Norton following his incredible win at the National Television Awards.

The Irish host was given the special recognition award for his hard work over the years in the broadcasting world.

Stars such as Will Smith, Dolly Parton, Dame Helen Mirren, Dame Judi Dench and Ed Sheeran came from near and far to praise the Cork native, in a pre-recorded segment which was aired as his win was announced.

Dolly Parton remembered her time with Graham, saying. “I had the most fun with him when he came to Dollywood. I think of all the people I’ve worked with, I have more in common with Graham than with anyone else. I just love him.”

Hollywood actor Will Smith went on to praise his presenting skills, saying, “It’s not just questions, he’s just magnificent at understanding who is sat in front of him enough to set the table for you to win.”

Ed Sheeran referred to the star as a “very personable chap,” while his Let It Shine co-host Mel Giedroyc said that Graham is “so much fun, it’s like not really working.”

Judi Dench referred to his world-famous red chair, saying, “You never quite know what’s going to happen. You’re always waiting for that ghastly red chair. It’s so unfair, gosh it makes me laugh.”

Helen Mirren mimicked her sentiment, concluding that while it’s “a little bit cruel”, “it comes with such incredible warmth and humanity that no one ever really feels bad.”

She went on to say, “He just makes you feel so relaxed, and even when you’re exhausted, you feel as if you’re diving into a glass of champagne.”

Graham was absolutely stunned by their kind words, and joked, “I feel so old. I feel like the NTAs have invited me to my own funeral. Turns out it was great! Will Smith and my mother were there. And Dolly Parton.”

He continued, “Thanks so much to the NTAs for this. I don’t quite know what to say because legions of people have worked on the show over the years…

“To keep a show on the air for that long isn’t that easy, and in my case it’s sort of a miracle. I’m not the funniest, I’m not the hardest worker, but I am the luckiest.”
