Elaine Crowley has gotten a tribute tattoo for her terminally ill friend, author Emma Hannigan.
Emma has been battling cancer for the last 13 years and recently revealed that her long-term battle with breast cancer has become terminal.
“My medical team have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at this fight but all avenues have now been exhausted,” she explained on social media.
The lengthy heartfelt post touched the hearts of many of her fans and friends, including Elaine.
The pair has long been close friends and Elaine has planned to get a tattoo for Emma for several years.
“When she’s done her chemo, herself and myself are getting tattoos because I promised her I would,” she said back in 2017.
“I’m possibly going to get a tattoo of a unicorn or an elephant.”
The TV3 host has now fulfilled her promise with an adorable little elephant tattoo.
She captioned the pic on Instagram: “Please text CURE to 50300 to donate €4 to @breastcancerireland – @emma_hannigan_author finally got me to ink the [peach emoji] with a unicorn.”
Speaking about why she got the tattoo Elaine said: “Emma Hannigan is the best person I know. I became an Ambassador for Breast Cancer Ireland because of her, and she’s still determined to raise as much money as possible for research.”
“She gave me a voucher for a tattoo for my 40th, we were supposed to get one done together, but as Emma says herself, cancer robbed us of that. So we decided this was a good idea to raise funds for BCI, plus she knows I’m a big chicken and she got a great laugh when I sent her the picture of my Unicorn Ass tattoo!
“Friends don’t come any better that Emma, and everyone involved with BCI, we’re not going to give up until we find a cure.”
