Zachary Quinto opened up about his love of Ireland, as he was honoured at the Oscar Wilde Awards last night.

A host of Irish musicians and actors turned out in force for one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies for Irish artists in Hollywood.

Zachary, whose mother is of Irish descent, was one of the lucky award winners on the night, and he said he was “really grateful” to be chosen for the coveted award.

“I’ve had nothing but incredible experiences in Ireland and with Irish people, and so to be recognised by this organisation which exists to promote Irish-American relations and collaborations is really gratifying,” he told LAgoss.com.

The Star Trek actor is eager to return to Ireland in the near future, and he revealed he got his Irish Equity card while starring in a play named Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde in 1998.

“I learned a lot about him at a time when I was learning a lot about myself, and I think what he represents in terms of authenticity, insight and commitment to truth is something I’ve used as a guide in my own journey.

“I love his creative perspective but I also love his personal journey, as tragic as it ended up being, I think he never backed off of who he was and never backed down from what he believed he had to fight for.”
