Whatsapp users are being warned to stay mindful when it comes to messages appearing on the app.

Some users have received a message which warns that a malicious software could hack your phone in seconds.

Over the past number of days, several users have received the text or video message, which did that rounds in Spain earlier this year.

An example of the message reads: “Tomorrow comes a video for whatsapp which is called martinelli. Do not open, it hacks the phone in 10 seconds and you can not stop in any way, pass the data to your friends.

However the message, known as the ‘Martinelli scam’ is nothing more than a hoax.

Users should ignore the message and be aware that it is completely fake, they are also advised not to share the message to avoid spreading the hoax further.
