Danny O’ Donoghue has revealed his heartwarming plans for Christmas day.
The Script’s frontman will be visiting children in hospital instead of spending it with his family or model girlfriend.
It’s not the first year he’ll be doing this good deed, as it actually started back in 2008 when the band were first asked to visit.
The singer said that since his father passed away shortly after the first visit, he decided to make the visits a tradition.
“So since my da passed away, I just said Christmas is crap in the morning time because we’re all thinking of him, so I just changed the energy,” he told the Irish Sun.
“So I went in one morning on my own and I met the porter, John, and I said, ‘Look I don’t even know what I am doing here, I just felt like coming in and helping out.
“And he said to follow him on the rounds. We went from there to the terminal wards, where a lot of families have been for four or five years.”
The star also highlighted how some parents who are not from Dublin have nowhere to stay while their children are ill.
“They’re from Galway, their kid is getting the best treatment they can up here, they’ve no place to stay, they’re sleeping on people’s couches and having the good will of people in Dublin.”
Danny explained how he expects the visit to go.
“We have Santa and Santa’s helpers come around with us as well, there’s loads of guitars flying around, we’re all singing songs. Probably there from about 9 in the morning til about 2.
He also explained that he kept it private for years but now feels it’s important to create awareness.
“In fairness the first eight years I didn’t want any press, I don’t want people knowing that I’m going in because that’s not why I’m doing it, but I’m doing it such a long time now, I see the value of giving them press, because you need to talk about it- it is a national problem, it’s a national issue.
“Getting funding, the parents that are in there and all the children in there getting the best possible care that they can.”
Danny is dating Brazillian model Anna de Paula and explains that they won’t be spending Christmas together.
“She’ll be in Brazil, she spends it with her family every year, and obviously I just chill out here because I’ve got a lot of family here that would kill me if I didn’t.”
