The Overtones have revealed that they have chosen to cancel their upcoming tour following the death of their bandmate Tim Matley.

The Irish singer passed away in early April at just 36-years-old.

Taking to social media, the band explained the various reasons behind the cancellation.

“After much careful consideration, we have decided to cancel our Summer tour dates.

“Not only do we feel that we need some time to process the loss of our friend, brother and bandmate, we also want to take some time to re-group and come back, later on, this year with new music and more live dates,” they said.

They cleared up any fears fans may have about the band breaking up.

“This is absolutely not the end of The Overtones, we just want to make sure everything we do next is a celebration of love, friendship and good times that will both comfort and uplift you, not only as a tribute to our dear friend Timmy, but also as a tribute to the amazing eight years we spent together as a band and the memories we have made and shared with you all.

“We’ve been extremely comforted and encouraged by the amazing support we have received over the last couple of weeks and we look forward to showing our appreciation with what comes next. All our love Darren, Mike, Mark and Lachie xx”

Fans were quick to show support and compassion to the band, who are grieving for their friend.

“Take as much time as you need, Timmy is a HUGE loss and a large part of your lives & ours. We will all be there to support you and love you and your music when you are ready. God bless xxxxxxx,” Fan Chris Mastroddi said.

“The best decision for you all – how could you just carry on right now. Feel for you all, this is such a sad loss to fans – but for you guys it must be terrible. Take your time, any real fans that love you will support you and will be there when you are ready,” supporter Helen Holmes added.

“Time doesn’t heal grief, but it gives you space to find a new way of living. Love to you all as you find your way” Twitter user Gill said.

The band recently shared a tribute on social media to their friend following his funeral.

Sharing a photo of some flowers and five shots, they sad: “To our brother..”
