Sniff! Here’s a look back on some of the year’s biggest break-ups

2016 hasn't been kind to the couples in celeb land.

It’s been a year of heartache for many Irish celebs, as some of our favourite couples called it quits on their relationships.

Here are some of the most shocking and heartbreaking splits of 2016:

Eoghan McDermott and Jo Archbold

Eoghan and Jo appeared to be love’s young when they first started dating in 2014, however, the pair called it quits in May, after just two years together. Speaking about the break-up Eoghan told the Irish Independent, “We were together for two years, and I guess with anyone you go into it in good faith, and it’s either going to be ‘the’ relationship or it’s not – and it wasn’t.” Luckily, Eoghan and Jo have found love with new partners since the split and they’re both happier than ever.

Jeremy McConnell and Stephanie Davis

Jeremy and Stephanie met on Big Brother in January and had a brief but very intense romance. Just over a month after they first met, it was confirmed that the couple split, despite declaring their love for each other and talking about marriage just weeks previously. A few weeks after the news of thire break-up was revealed, Stephanie announced she was pregnant with her first child and claimed Jeremy was the father. The former Hollyoaks actress is due to give birth in January.

Bressie and Roz

Bressie and Roz were undeniably Ireland’s golden couple, so fans were left heartbroken when Roz took to Instagram to announce they’d parted ways after three years together. Taking to Instagram the top model said, “Myself and Niall decided to end our relationship some time ago. We are still friends and love each other very much. We won’t be saying anything else about it so appreciate if you could respect that.” Roz has since found love with music producer Zach Desmond.

Laura Whitmore and Rory Williams

Laura Whitmore split from her rocker boyfriend, Rory Williams after just eight months together. The pair reportedly split after a whirlwind romance to focus on their career. A source told the Irish Mirror, “Things haven’t worked out with Laura and Rory. Some of her friends think they are still going out but he’s getting on with his music and doing his own thing.” Laura has since been linked to her Strictly Come Dancing partner, Giovanni Pernice.

Danny O’Reilly and Holly Carpenter

Last month it was revealed that Danny O’Reilly and Holly Carpenter split after dating for nearly a year. A source close to the pair revealed that the couple parted ways amicably, and there was no apparent drama involved. “They had a really good relationship and got on so well, but Holly felt it just wasn’t right anymore.” the source told Goss.ie.

Thalia and Maser

Thalia Heffernan and Maser announced their split last month, not long after the graffiti artist was snapped in holiday pics with tv presenter Vogue Williams. Speaking about the pictures and the split Thalia said, “Well I am a human being – that’s all I am going to say about it. Like I said, bittersweet. With love comes pain as well, so that’s just that. You have to accept that if you are willing to fall in love, pain is going to come hand in hand.”

Daniella Moyles and Dara Quilty

Daniella and Dara parted ways in July after five years together because they weren’t ready to settle down. Speaking exclusively to VIP about the split, Daniella said she’s still really good friends with her ex.“I literally adore him. He’s one of my favourite people on the planet.” she said. “We were together for five years and we’re still really good friends, which is amazing. He has had, without a doubt, the most positive impact on my life.”
