Rory McIlroy has opened up about his relationship with fiancé Erica Stoll.
The golfing pro went through a very public break-up with his ex Caroline Wozniack in 2014, but he found love shortly after with stunning Erica and they are due to get married next year.
The 27-year-old has said that one of the nicest things about dating Erica is that they were friends first and foremost.
“I think the nicest thing about Erica and I’s relationship is we started out as friends,” he told Cool FM.
“We were friends for a couple of years, we knew each other from the golf circuit and in summer 2014 started to spend a bit more time together and it went from there.
“We spent Halloween together in 2014 and then the day next we went for a bit of brunch and we bumped into my mam and dad, but they knew her anyway so that was okay,” he continued.
“We were sort of seeing each other for about a month and I didn’t really ask her out, I just sort of said, ‘What’s going on here? Where’s this going?”
Rory also revealed that Erica was initially apprehensive about putting pressure on him in because of his very public break-up in the past, but he admits he was “all for it”.
“I think she was conscious she didn’t want to pressurise me into anything because of what had went on with me but I was all for it,” he said.
When questioned about his wedding plans, he confirmed that the wedding will take place in 2017, but kept quiet about the details.
“Everything is under control.” he said.
There has been speculation that the couple will get hitched on New Year’s Eve at Ashford Castle – watch this space!
