The red carpet for Liam Neeson’s new movie Cold Pursuit was cancelled last night, following his recent controversial comments.

Just hours before the Irishman was due to walk the carpet in New York, event organisers pulled the plug on that aspect of the premiere.

Earlier in the week, the actor revealed that upon learning his friend was raped, he wanted to get revenge on a black man.

“She handled the situation of the rape in the most extraordinary way,” he told the Independent.

“But my immediate reaction was… did she know who it was? No. What colour were they? She said it was a black person.

“I went up and down areas with a cosh, hoping I’d be approached by somebody.

“I’m ashamed to say that, and I did it for maybe a week – hoping some [gestured air quotes] ‘black b******’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could kill him.”

Following huge backlash online, Liam went on Good Morning America, insisting, “I am not racist.”

“I was trying to show honour, to stand up for my dear friend in this terribly medieval fashion,” he said.

“It really shocked me, this primal urge I had. It shocked me and it hurt me.

“I did seek help. I went to a priest, who heard my confession’ and also later confided in two friends and would go out powerwalking for ‘two hours a day to get this [anger] out of me’.”
