Philomena Lynott has sadly passed away, aged 88, according to reports from Hotpress.

Mother of the late Phil Lynott, had spent the last number of years battling cancer, but refused treatment.

“I don’t want chemotherapy. I think it kills you and that’s that,” she told the Irish Sun at the time.

“I told the doctor and she said she admired me for that. If I start having chemotherapy I would come back home and curl up in the bed and be cranky. I don’t want to leave this planet in that situation.”

Philomena was a teen when she gave birth to her rockstar son, and was grateful for her mother who helped raise Phil.

Speaking to VIP Magazine, she previously said, “In 1947, I emigrated to England and when I was 17 I gave birth to Philip but because I wasn’t a married woman and I didn’t have a ring they battered me, they spat at me and they threw me in a workhouse.

“With the terrible treatment I got throughout the years, thank god my mother decided to raise him here in Dublin.

“Everybody loves Philo, he was a great son and we loved each other and it’s heartening to know that my boy is still loved.”

The mother and son duo had waxworks created in The National Wax Museum, and at the time she told us, “It’s so emotional to think that I’m now beside him forever more.”
