Mrs Brown’s Boys star Rory Cowan hits out at trolls who compared him to Jimmy Saville

The tv star has fallen victim to 'vile' online abuse.

This sounds horrible.

Mrs Brown’s Boys star Rory Cowan has hit out at trolls who compared him to Jimmy Saville and called him a ‘paedophile’.

The abuse started directly after the actor paid a visit to a children’s hospital and it was so vicious that he has decided to take legal action.

Rory spoke out about his horrible trolling experience on RTE Radio One.

“One person said ‘I saw you at the hospital with the kids, shades of Jimmy Savile off you, if I had a child in hospital I would take them out if it they were going to be presented with people like you’.” he said.

“I was told everyone thinks I’m a paedophile, they were saying ‘Hey Rory leave the kids alone’.”

Rory admitted that he’s used to receiving some minor abuse from people who don’t like Mrs Brown’s Boys, but the trolling he experienced after visiting the hospital was too hard to take.

“There are people who don’t like Mrs Brown’s Boys but that’s water off a duck’s back, it doesn’t bother me.” he said.

“This was so vicious and so quick, it was like a kick in the stomach. There was a few of them, they were feeding each other so in the end I thought have to get my solicitor involved because this has taken on a life of it’s own.

“I was actually sick to my stomach, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and all because of one response I gave to a tweet.”

He went on to say that although he had heard of trolling before, he didn’t realise just how bad it was until it happened to him.

“I have heard people saying they were victims of Twitter bullying and stuff and I remember thinking ‘tough enough, it can’t be that bad’ until it happened and then you realise.” he said.

“This is just vile stuff.”
