Majella O’Donnell has spoken out against the Irish Cancer Society’s recent controversial ad campaign.

The 56-year-old was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 and and she shaved her head live on The Late Late Show that same year, before embarking on chemotherapy.

Her brave act raised €600,000 for the Irish Cancer Society, and although she’s been given the all clear since, she still works alongside the charity to raise awareness.

However, Majella was not impressed with the charity’s latest ad campaign, which the Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland this week ruled cannot be shown again.

The charity was heavily criticised for it’s recent campaign that contained the tagline “I want to get cancer”.

“I wouldn’t have been that keen on the choice of words.” Majella told The Irish Daily Star.

“I think there are far more effective campaigns that the Cancer Society could focus their attention on.

“I have been a huge supporter of their’s, I did the head shave thing, but when I saw that ad I found myself wondering why in God’s name did they do that kind of thing?”

Majella was speaking ahead of her return to television for the second series of Daniel & Majella’s B&B Roadtrip, which airs March 7th on RTE One.
