Mairead Ronan was faced with some negative comments after sharing a photo of herself breastfeeding in public.

The presenter and businesswoman was attending the Beaut.ie awards where her brand Faro picked up the top prize for Best Haircare Newcomer.

Sharing a pic from the event, Mairead shared how proud she was of her win, and revealed she brought her newborn baby with her.

“Delighted to have picked up Best Haircare Newcomer at the beaut.ie awards this evening for our company faroirl …celebrating the win by breastfeeding Bonnie at the event (she’s 4 weeks old today so where I go she goes too) #beaut.ie #hairawards#haircare #farobrushes #faroblowdry#breastfeedinginpublic” she captioned the pic.

While many took to the comments to congratulate the star and applaud her for juggling everything, some took issue with the breastfeeding.

“I got a couple of messages and DMs sent to me tonight about me breastfeeding and having my baby’s face covered and ‘you shouldn’t be covering your baby’s face and it’s the most natuaral thing in the world’,” she revealed on Instagram.

“I don’t really have my baby’s face covered, It’s actually this amazing apron thing I have,” she explained sharing a video of the apron.

“She’s looking straight up at me (when I wear the apron) see!”

The mum-of-three pointed out that we should not be questioning new mums and the way they do things.

She continued: “But even if I did have my baby’s face covered I think we shouldn’t be criticizing women who do that because we should just breastfeed whatever way makes you feel most comfortable out in public.”

The tv presenter, who welcomed Bonnie just last month also pointed out that the decision to breastfeed can be tough and each mum should do what suits them best.

“I’m nearly at the end of my rant, but breastfeeding is hard especially in the early days so what you don’t want to do is discourage other women from doing it because you’re saying ‘oh you shouldn’t have your baby’s face covered’ whatever works for you works!”

Many took to the comments on the original photo to praise Mairead once more.

“Well done…loved my ‘hooter hider ‘ too when I was feeding my 3 kids! Just made me feel a little less exposed when out in public plus the babies were less distracted and had a better feed!” follower lowryeimear said.

“exactly !! It’s not about hiding them …” Mairead replied.

“Congratulations and well done on promoting breastfeeding, very admirable. Its such a special time, enjoy every minute,” catherinemccormackadare added.
