Irish producer Kevin Killen praised David Bowie as he collected an award on his behalf at last night’s Grammy Awards.

The music legend, who lost his battle with cancer just over a year ago, was honoured at last night’s Los Angeles ceremony with five posthumous Grammys for his final studio album Blackstar.

The album won Grammys for Best Rock Song, Best Alternative Music Album, Best Rock Performance and Best Engineered Non-Classical Album.

Jonathan Barnbrook also received the award for Best Recording Package for his artwork on the album.

Producer of Blackstar, Kevin Killen collected a Grammy on David’s behalf and, speaking backstage, he had nothing but praise for the Heroes singer.

According to USA Today, Kevin said: “This is his first music Grammy of any of his projects, so it’s kind of shocking for someone who had such an amazing presence in the business.

“But these things happen and I’m sure most of us that work in the business don’t necessarily think about getting awards. It’s just about the joy of making music and I’m sure it was for him, too.”

He also went in to say that everyone working on the album was aware of David’s illness from the beginning.

“We were aware from Day 1 of the recording of David’s condition, but it did not impede,” he said.

“He was incredibly enthusiastic every day and really determined to make this record on his own terms, and hope that obviously, the outcome would be different. But it was an inspiration for all of us to see him do it.”
