Gay Byrne has revealed that he is ‘too sick’ to miss his career in broadcasting.

The former Late Late Show presenter was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2016, following a number of other health concerns.

The Howth native, who presented the RTE talk show for 37 years, has told The Irish Mirror, “I’m too lacking in energy to miss it.

“People have been amazingly kind and gentle and asking how I am. It’s from all over the nation.”

As well as undergoing treatment for cancer, Gay is recovering from a double hip replacement and a heart attack which he suffered in 2015, so is relying on his family for support.

“My darling wife, my darling son-in-law and my darling daughter are taking great care of me at the moment,” he said.

“I’m a regular visitor to the Mater Hospital for treatment and everything seems to be going fine for the moment. They’re very happy with me – whether I am or not.”

We wish him all the best in his recovery.
