Saoirse Ronan’s father has admitted that he is disappointed for his daughter after she lost out on an Oscar on Sunday night.

The talented actress was nominated for her performance in Lady Bird, which marked her third Academy Award nomination.

However, the Carlow native lost out to Frances McDormand who won for her performance in Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri.

Though Saoirse’s dad Paul Ronan said that she was ‘blessed’ to be up for the award, he also revealed he was sad to see her lose out.

“I was a bit disappointed for Saoirse when she lost out to Frances, although losing is the wrong word to use.

“It’s her third Oscar nomination, and that, to a lot of actors would be a dream come true. Each of the three times she was nominated, a wonderful actress won the award so I would never say she was robbed or anything like that.”Saoirse GG

He added that she still has plenty of time to pick up an award, as she is still so young,

“She is blessed to be in such amazing company really, and hey, she’s only 24,” he said.

“The great thing about awards and being nominated is the potential work it may bring to you, actors love their job and the best award is more work, good work and experiences in a very competitive field.”

Actor Paul has recently landed a new role as Anto in Fair City.
