RTE presenter Geri Maye has opened up about suffering through 12 miscarriages throughout her life.

The former host of The Den and Winning Streak alongside Marty Whelan appeared on Virgin Media chat show Elaine this week, and spoke honestly about the pain she went through while trying to conceive.

“I will never forget the first time saying to my husband I can never go through this again,”Geri told Virgin Media One’s Elaine.

If someone gave me a crystal ball and told me I was going to go through this 11 times, I think I would have crawled back into bed and never gotten out again.'”

“I didn’t know where to turn (…) this is a situation where you can lose friends. You get into a situation where you don’t want to burden people. I got into a stage where I didn’t want to burden anyone any more.”

“I started to become a different person. Because now I was saying I had to get on with this, I have to keep going.

“I was live on air doing a show, on RTE I miscarried twice live on air. Because it was the decision to go to Holles Street or do the programme and the programme won out.

Geri, who was previously engaged to fellow presenter Ray D’Arcy, is now married to Limerick business man Peter Collins, and revealed she relied strongly on him during the hard times.

“I have to be honest, it was down to me and my husband. It was the two of us against the world,” she said.
