Game of Thrones star Kristian Nairn has hit out at Ed Sheeran’s cameo in the show.

The singer made his GOT debut as a Lannister soldier in season seven, however it was met with huge backlash from viewers.

Irish actor Kristian, who plays Hodor in the show, understood their frustration and doesn’t think his appearance was relevant to the series.

Speaking to the Huffington Post he said, “I’m not a fan of the cameos in Game of Thrones. I don’t like them. I think it’s stupid.

“I just think it takes you right out of the world. Especially Ed Sheeran. I was like, ‘Why is Ed Sheeran here?’ I mean, Ed Sheeran’s great. He’s a great guy, great musician, but why is he in Game of Thrones?”

He went on to say, “I think most people would agree with me there. It was a big snap to reality. It’s like, ‘What? What?

“It’s a fantasy show. We’re all caught in this amazing world and spend so much time and money and talent to create, and all of a sudden there’s a pop star? What?”

At the time of airing and following an array of harsh criticism, the show’s director spoke out in the singer’s defence.

“I think Ed did a lovely job,” he told Newsweek. “He’s a lovely actor, and a lovely person.

“The hoo-ha seems to be from things that are outside of the world of the show.

“In the world of the show he did a lovely job, and he looks like he belongs in that world.

“If people didn’t know who Ed was, they wouldn’t have thought about it twice.”
