As the mercury continues to rise, this Irish heatwave shows no sign of disappearing any time soon.

With temperatures remaining in the high 20’s – even reaching the 30’s in some parts of the country – people are being warned to take care in heat.

It doesn’t come around often so people tend to get excited with the sunshine, but you can still have fun while looking after your health.

Bearing this in mind, the Dublin Fire Brigade have issued six key pieces of advice on how to protect yourself and those around you during this sunny spell.

1: Drink water – it’s important to stay hydrated whether you’re at home, work or out in the sunshine.

2: Apply suncream and use a high factor!

3: Stay cool and seek shade if you begin to feel warm.

4: Avoid enclosed spaces!

5: Wear a hat and loose clothing to keep cool and to protect yourself from sunburn.

6: If you’re feeling weak, sit down and get help.

Enjoy this glorious weather, but remember to stay safe!
