Donncha O’Callaghan has announced his retirement from rugby.

The Irish sports star will hang up his boots at the end of this season after over 20 years on the field.

“I am done. It’s been great. I have had a great time. I love the game and I want to finish loving it,” he told the Irish Examiner.

“I’d love to be able to walk away from it and say I had a great time within it and be thankful to the game itself.

“I have four small kids, I want to be running around with them having fun. I don’t want to be stuck in goal in a five-a-side. You want to finish the game fit, healthy, and well. You want to be active.

“It’s definite right now.  My family need me around more. As much as I love rugby I love them more and I need to be there. That’s corny isn’t it? But that’s the way it is.”

Meanwhile, Simon Zebo has also revealed he’ll be finishing up with the Munster rugby team at the end of this season.

Simon wants to spend more time with his family, and didn’t make the decision to leave lightly.

“This club has moulded me into the player and person I am today and I will forever be grateful for that,” he told MunsterRugby.ie.

“However, I have always noted the draw to play abroad one day, and in not talking this decision lightly, I have decided on what’s best for my family.

“With my partner Elvira and two young children Jacob and Sofia, we are planning for our future and this is the right time for us to make the move.”
