Daniel Radcliffe pays tribute to award winning play-wright who passed away in Cork

Actor Daniel Radcliffe has paid an emotional tribute to Equus playwright, Peter Shaffer, who sadly passed away in Cork this weekend at the age of 90.

The Harry Potter star remembered the writer as kind, generous and funny.

Posting a tribute on social media,  the Harry Potter star thanked the Oscar-winning playwright for allowing him to play Alan Strang in Equus and he said he will be forever grateful to the man for trusting him with the character.

“He created challenging, moving and fantastically theatrical work and was also an incredibly kind, generous and funny man.

“In my career Equus remains one of the most important and valuable things I’ve ever done in terms of how much I learnt from it,” he said.

Daniel wrote that Equus, where he played a disturbed teenager who blinds six horses, still remains one of his most valuable career moves.

He said, “I will forever be grateful to him for trusting me to play the character of Alan Strang at a time when I had extremely limited experience on stage. I feel very privileged to have worked with him and will miss him.”

Peter Shaffer passed away at Marymount Hospice in Cork on Monday morning after a short illness. May he rest in peace.
