Cancer research project named in memory of Emma Hannigan

The talented author passed away in March.

A new cancer research project is set to be named after the late Emma Hannigan.

The author raised a huge amount of awareness and massive funds for Breast Cancer Ireland.

She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, and passed away on March 3rd of this year.

Taking to Instagram to share the news the charity said:

“Breast Cancer Ireland is delighted to announce a new research fellowship in memory of our dear friend, Emma Hannigan.

“Emma is to be honoured by Breast Cancer Ireland, the charity for whom she was an ambassador, through a new research fellowship, The Emma Hannigan Breast Cancer Research Fellowship.

“This initial three-year award will support pioneering research taking place in the Breast Cancer Research Centre in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the inaugural award will go to research fellow Dr Damier Varislija. ”

CEO of BCI Aisling Hurley said: “The naming of this fellowship in Emma’s honour recognises her valuable contribution to our research efforts and it ensures her memory lives on in transforming the landscape of breast cancer in Ireland into the future”

They added on Instagram: “Emma – you inspired us all. We miss you, but you will always remain in our hearts”
