Bryan Dobson bid an emotional goodbye to RTE’s Six One News last night as he finished up his final segment.

After 21 years on the show, Bryan delivered the news for the last time, before he embarks on a new adventure next week.

The broadcaster will be presenting on Morning Ireland from next Wednesday, and his Six One co-presenter, Sharon Ni Bheolain wasn’t going to let him leave without a good send-off.

Before sharing a clip from some of his best moments over the years, Sharon said, “We have a significant milestone to mark on this programme.

“Viewers will be aware at this stage that this is the last bulletin this man here beside me will be presenting.

Sharon will certainly miss him!

“On behalf of the Six-One team at the moment and Six-One teams going back decades – and I know that’s going to make you feel really old, Dobbo! – it falls to me to say thank you.

“You’ve been a rock to us. You’ve been our anchor, figuratively and literally. I’m not going to look at you now because I know I’m going to get all teary!

“From my point of view you’ve been a great friend and a mentor, and I’m sure the whole country joins with me this evening in wishing you the very, very best.”

In a heartfelt goodbye to the programme, Bryan said  “Thank you Sharon for your very kind words. It’s been wonderful working with you and everyone on the programme; now and over the years. It’s been a blast! It really has been fantastic.”

He emotionally concluded, “I hate to go, but I’m afraid I have to leave.”
