Last week Brendan Courtney’s We Need To Talk About Dad documentary aired on RTE One, and was met with a lot of moving comments from viewers.

The informative programme dealt with the issue of care in Ireland- something close to the fashion designer’s heart as his dad Frank requires constant palliative care, since suffering a stroke a year ago. Fans took to Twitter to post their reactions, and now Brendan has shared his dad’s.

After showing it to him on a laptop, Frank sat up in his bed at the hospice where he resides, and told his son how he felt.

He spoke of his dad's pride.

Speaking to the Independent Brendan recalled what his dad said, “I’m proud of you. I’m proud of me too. And I’m proud of my whole family.”

The tv presenter went on to explain that he’s had numerous people stopping him in the street since the documentary aired, sharing their similar stories of heartache.

“Middle-aged women coming up to me in the street and crying as they are telling me their stories. Parents ill – no support. What are we going to do? Where are we going to care for them? No plan. No structure around the options. Devastated. Guilt,” he said.

He’s highlighted a concern for a lot of people nationwide.
