Christy Dignam was taken to hospital yesterday and is currently being treated for an infection.

The Aslan star, who was diagnosed with incurable cancer four years ago, was brought to James Connolly Memorial Hospital after his temperature spiked.

Christy’s close pals fear his string of live shows could hinder his health even further, and want him to take it easy.

“Christy shaking hands and coming into close contact with fans could lead to an infection which is a very serious thing for someone undergoing chemotherapy,” Gerald Kean told The Irish Sun.

“He has to be really careful. Christy is just worn out. He wants to give it 100 per cent at every concert but there’s a price to pay and he needs to take a rest. As a close friend, I can tell him that.”

Meanwhile, the singer has been working on some new material with other musical legends.

Speaking exclusively to VIP Magazine recently, Christy said, “I have always wanted to do something in the traditional vein, so I have been doing bits with Finbar Furey.

“Perhaps these projects won’t be commercially viable or successful, but I’m not doing it for those reasons. I’m doing it for myself.”

The Dubliner revealed that his diagnosis has forced him to look at life differently, and while he’s enjoying each moment to the full, knows that there are certain things he’ll miss out on in the future.

“I am very lucky. Others with my cancer have not been so lucky. But I’m sad that I wont get to see the grandkids making their communion, and all those other important milestones in their lives.

“I try not to think about death, but when you’re lying awake in bed at night, it’s all that you think about.

“I spend a lot of time thinking that this could be my last meal or gig or my last Late Late Show.

“That said, I have done The Late Late Show and thought it was my last, and then I have done it again. But each time, the thought is in my head.”

We wish him a speedy recovery.
