Aidan Gillan may have had a dramatic exit from Game Of Thrones, but he’s back in action in a new role very soon.

The Irish actor has announced that he will play the part of controversial Irish comedian Dave Allen.

The one off BBC Two show, called Dave Allen at Peace, will examine how his personal life impacted on his career.

Tommy Tiernan and Joanne Crawford will play Allen’s parents in the drama.

The film will also feature a long line of impressive actors, including Robert Bathurst from Cold Feet, Father Ted’s Pauline McLynn and Ian McElhinney from Star Wars: Rogue One.

It will be filmed in homage to Dave’s original television format. From his famous bar stool, the comic will reflect on his formative years and showbiz career. Flashbacks, some visualised as comedy sketches, will intercut his bar stool repartee bringing significant moments to life.

Filming begins in Northern Ireland this month with Northern Ireland Screen and RTE as partners.
