AIB have warned customers to be on the look out for a new scam that is targeting customers around the country.

The bank issued a statement on their website regarding reports that account holders are receiving phone calls from people claiming to be from AIB to gain access to their account details.

“The callers may use social engineering techniques to trick you into divulging your banking credentials and provide codes from your Card Reader in order to access your online banking and make fraudulent payments,” reads a statement on the AIB website.

“You may also be asked to allow the caller to take remote control of your PC in order to ‘assist’ you however this could allow the fraudster show you fraudulent screens.”

AIB urges you not to divulge any of your account details over the phone, and to contact them immediately if you receive any suspicious calls.
